Locked out in Maastricht? Here is what to do

Being locked out is stressful, especially at night, in the rain, or in a country where you do not speak the language. In most cases this is easy to solve, sometimes without a locksmith at all.

First, try these things

Check if there is another door, such as a back door or a balcony door, that is still open. Ask your housemates, your partner or a neighbour who might have a spare key. If you rent, call your landlord or the rental agency. Many of them keep a key, and some have an emergency number.

Do not try to force the door or the window yourself. That often causes more damage than a locksmith would, and the repair is more expensive than opening the door.

Locked out of your student room

Many students in Maastricht live in a house with a shared front door and their own room door with a separate lock. If you are locked out of your room, ask your landlord first. They often have a spare key and may be able to come by.

If that is not possible, we can open your room door. During the day this costs from € 69. We will ask you to show proof that the room is yours, for example your ID and your rental contract or post with your name and address.

Who pays: you or your landlord?

If you lost your key or left it inside, you usually pay for opening the door yourself. If the lock is broken because it is old or worn, it is often the landlord who should pay, because maintenance of the lock is normally their responsibility. Check your rental contract, and ask your landlord first if you are not sure.

We give you a clear invoice with the work and the price, so you can discuss it with your landlord afterwards.

What happens when we arrive

We ask for your ID or other proof that you live there. Then we open the door. A door that has fallen shut almost always opens without damage. If the door is locked with a key or has a security strip, it takes more work. During the day that costs from € 119.

Sometimes the cylinder has to come out. In that case we fit a new one straight away, so you can lock your door again tonight. You always hear this, and the price, before we do it.

Evening, night and weekend

We are available day and night, also at the weekend and on public holidays. In the evening, opening a door costs from € 124. At night and at the weekend it is from € 152.
